Drivers of ‘gas guzzling’ vehicles face tax increase

Drivers of “gas guzzling” vehicles, including the widely demonised Chelsea Tractors and some high performance sports cars, bore the brunt of a green-tinged package of road tax and fuel duty rises that will see the Treasury pocket a billion pounds in revenue.

Gordon Brown said he would double the top rate of vehicle excise duty for the worst polluting cars, including some four-wheel drive vehicles, over the next two years.
