Ukraine needs swift fix to lighten bleak outlook

Ukraine has managed to keep householders warm by tapping domestic gas production and reserves, but the dispute with Russia is wreaking growing damage to its crisis-hit economy.

The chemicals industry was on Tuesday ordered to halt production, the latest sign of difficulties that have mounted since Gazprom, the Russian gas monopoly, cut off supplies on January 1.
