China tightens safety reporting rules for toys

Inspection authorities in China's southern Guangdong province are enforcing toy safety reporting standards stricter than those required by the European Union and industry executives fear China may be overreacting to US recalls.

The new requirement, which came into effect last week, highlights the Chinese government's in-creasingly stringent res-ponse to safety issues surrounding a range of China-made exports, from pet food to toothpaste.
