The rise of south-east Asian economies has been a saving grace for Benoy, the London-based architectural practice behind the Bluewater and Lakeside shopping centres.

The firm will do as much business in Vietnam this year as it does in the whole of the UK, according to Graham Cartledge, its chairman. “We are relieved to be highly committed to the emerging markets,” he says.
