Insurance partnerships reach crossroads in China

Foreign insurance groups, which flocked to the fast-growing Chinese market over the past decade, face crucial decisions over how – or whether – to develop their mainland business.

A handful of overseas groups, including HSBC, entered the Chinese market by acquiring an equity stake in existing insurance companies, while many started joint ventures with domestic partners.
