Best Buy, the world's largest consumer electronics chain, yesterday said its stores in Shanghai had seen a surge in the popularity of local Chinese products over the past year, in what may be a sign of the future shape of the global electronics market.
Bob Willett, head of Best Buy's international division, said the six stores in Shanghai had seen "massive movement towards local brands" in the past year - which include names such as Lenovo, TCL and Haier - in a business previously dominated by Japanese and Korean brands.
