Thai government wins confidence vote

Thailand’s three-month old government survived a no confidence vote on Saturday, consolidating its hold on power and boosting its ability to concentrate fully on the damage done to the economy by the economic crisis.

The opposition had accused Abhisit Vejjajiva, the new prime minister, and five other ministers of abuse of power and financial irregularities, but after three days of debate the parliament voted largely along party lines.
