The bird flu outbreak in East Anglia was on Tuesday confirmed as the virulent H5N1 strain, prompting the government to impose region-wide restrictions on the movement of poultry.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) extended a precautionary “restricted” zone over much of Norfolk and Suffolk, prohibiting all movement out of the region of the 25m birds registered at more than 1,200 premises.
