Iran has freed Kian Tajbakhsh, a US-Iranian academic, who had been detained for over four months on spying charges, but has prevented him from leaving the country.

Mr Tajbakhsh, an urban planning consultant with George Soros’s New York-based Open Society Institute, was released on Wednesday evening on bail of 1bn rials ($107,000), Iran’s state news agency said on Thursday.
