Somali government calls for military aid

The speaker of the Somali parliament has issued a desperate call for Somalia’s neighbours to send troops to the country to rescue the fragile interim government as it comes under siege from militant Islamists trying to overthrow it.

Speaking on Saturday, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Madobe, the parliamentary speaker, said the interim government’s existence would be in danger if it was not helped within 24 hours by outside military reinforcements.
