BBC must make £400m cost cuts

The BBC will have to cut costs by £400m ($580m) in order to avoid breaching its statutory borrowing limit, Mark Thompson, the corporation’s director-general, said on Thursday.

Speaking at the MediaGuardian Changing Media Summit in London, Mr Thompson said the cuts would include freezing senior management pay and withdrawing discretionary bonuses to “top talent”.
