The two old-fashioned warehouses behind the Kao Terminal in the port of Kaohsiung could prove to be some of the most important in the port complex that sits at the southern end of Taiwan.
Inside one building, workers are taking pairs of shoes made for a big sportswear manufacturer in two Asian countries and packing them together as a single gift-set. In the other, a European chemical company stores drums destined for countries around south-east Asia, ready to be shipped out at short notice.
