Catholic Church fails to stop funding

Viewed from the US, Europe can seem an increasingly godless place of falling church attendances, liberal social policies and relativist moral values.

But on Monday the Roman Catholic Church delivered a reminder that its influence – although diminished – is still a factor in European politics, as it inspired a rearguard action against stem cell research.
