Report hits at use of oil money by authorities

As Iraqis elect a new parliament, serious questions have been raised about the stewardship of billions of dollars in Iraqi oil revenues by the US-led occupation authority during its year-long rule of the country.

According to a report by the US Special Inspector General for Iraqi reconstruction, Stuart Bowen, the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq failed to ensure that nearly $9bn (€7bn, £4.8bn) in oil revenues it gave to Iraqi ministries was used for its intended purposes.
