Sir, Clive Crook is a bit unfair to Barack Obama (“Obama is dithering on Afghanistan”, October 26). The president is caught in a conundrum: he will be criticised by many Democrats if he accepts the recommendation to increase troops; however, if he does not, the Republicans will gloat.
