Competition hots up as M&S goes into battle

Marks and Spencer’s new Christmas ads, set to air next week, will have a saucy feel, with Life on Mars star Philip Glenister delivering some cheeky one-liners about “juicy birds” and girls in their underwear.

Sir Stuart Rose, executive chairman of M&S, says the ads are a “bit of a laugh, a bit of fun”, to brighten up the gloom of the recession.
