Luxury goods sector loses ground

European equities trod water yesterday with drugmakers and luxury goods companies weighing on the region's bourses.

The FTSE Eurofirst 300 index of top European shares ended flat at 860.20. The index rose 8.3 per cent in the first two days of the week in a powerful rally but it has lost more than 40 per cent this year.
