Daimler on Wednesday underscored the worsening conditions in the German labour market when its chief executive said he could not rule out lay-offs in the light of a “once in a century” crisis.

“We cannot rule out lay-offs – in a worst-case scenario – if the crisis continues,” Dieter Zetsche, the premium carmakers’ chief executive, said at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting.
