Farmers and landowners have warned that plans for a £50m ($88m) national coastal path that would trace the entire periphery of the UK are badly thought-out and underfunded.

The new path along beaches and cliffs is one of the more esoteric measures that will be unveiled in the Queen’s Speech at the end of the year. It will be put into law in the ensuing parliament as part of a wider marine bill.
