Musharraf reaches out to coalition

Pakistan’s president Pervez Musharraf on Sunday pledged to support “whichever new government comes to office” as his opponents prepared to install a new prime minister who spent more than five years in prison on unproven corruption charges, during Mr Musharraf’s rule.

Speaking at the annual Pakistan day parade ceremony in Islamabad, Mr Musharraf claimed he had laid the foundation of a “good democracy” in the nine years since he seized power in a bloodless coup in 1999.
