P&G tackles rising cost of raw materials

Procter & Gamble yesterday delivered a 9 per cent rise in fourth-quarter earnings on booming global sales of Pampers nappies, Crest toothpaste and Tide detergent but the company's shares fell as gross margins were affected by rising raw material costs.

The results showed that the largest US consumer goods company had managed to use price rises and higher sales to offset some, but not all, commodity and energy costs.
