Ofcom wants to scrap radio ownership rules

The prospect of newspaper groups owning large local radio stations in cities where they also dominate the press moved closer ­on Friday.

Ofcom, the broadcasting regulator, released its recommendations to the government on the future of local media ownership and took the unexpected step of suggesting that the rules governing radio ownership should be scrapped.
