Former RAF base set to become illegal immigrant detention camp

The site of a former RAF base that was used during the Battle of Britain could become a detention camp for illegal immigrants under government proposals announced yesterday.

The Home Office plans to use the camp at Coltishall in Norfolk to house up to 500 immigrants, including foreign prisoners due for deportation. The move is aimed principally at reducing pressure on overcrowding in Britain's jails.
