Ceiops to give annuities reprieve in UK

UK life assurers are closer to gaining a reprieve on their huge books of annuity business after European regulators reined back from their very conservative interpretation of proposed new capital rules.

The Committee of European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Supervisors (Ceiops) has opened the door to an exception for UK assurers’ existing annuity books that would limit any demands for an increase in capital for annuity businesses.
