Collapse of merger leaves Friends vulnerable

Potential predators were thought to be eyeing Friends Provident on Friday after its merger with Resolution finally fell apart, while the position of its senior management was looking increasingly precarious.

Long thought to be on shaky ground, Resolution and Friends ended their merger agreement after Resolution on Friday recommended a £4.9bn offer from Standard Life.
