Recent years have seen an unprecedented bull market for the world’s most sought-after wines. Much of the demand has been driven by new collectors in Asia and younger enthusiasts in the US. But amid the exuberance, concerns about counterfeit wines have come to the fore. To learn more about the changing face of the fine wine market, the Financial Times held a round-table discussion in New York with three of the most active buyers on the auction scene: Robert Rosania, a New York real estate investor; Raymond Tuppatsch, a New York collector; and Brian Orcutt, a New York-based wine consultant. The interview was conducted at Restaurant Daniel in New York.
Despite the turmoil on Wall Street and what looks and feels like a recession in the US, the fine wine market remains buoyant. Do you expect this to continue, or foresee a correction?
