Fresh blow for Sats as science test scrapped

Science tests for 11-year-olds in England will be scrapped from next year and replaced by teacher assessments, Ed Balls, schools secretary, said on Thursday, in a further blow for the beleaguered Sats examination regime.

Maths and English will still be examined and externally marked, however.
