Minister joins revolt against Brown leadership

A rebellion against Gordon Brown by his own MPs gathered momentum on Tuesday afternoon as it was joined for the first time by a minister of state.

David Cairns, a junior minister in the Scotland Office, resigned after Westminster was gripped by rumours that he was among those MPs wanting Labour to hold a leadership contest.
