Chicago’s African-Americans celebrate in force

The heart of Chicago was transformed into a giant street party on Tuesday night as the election results were beamed into the official party of Barack Obama’s campaign in the city’s Grant Park.

Anticipation turned to joy as the 70,000 Obama supporters lucky enough to have secured Chicago’s “hottest tickets” digested the earliest results, including predictions of a win for their candidate in Pennsylvania, a state his opponent John McCain had desperately needed to win.
