Republicans raise Guantánamo doubts

Republicans on Friday pointed to reports that a former Guantánamo Bay prisoner had become a senior al-Qaeda operative in Yemen to cast fresh doubt about Barack Obama’s plan to close the prison.

The new president this week announced that he would shut the detention camp on Cuba within a year, which prompted Republican concerns about moving suspected terrorists into the US.
