Cooper is frontrunner for Imperial helm

Imperial Tobacco has given the strongest clue yet about its succession plans after it promoted Alison Cooper to the newly created position of chief operating officer.

The appointment sets up Ms Cooper as the front-runner to succeed Gareth Davis, the long-standing chief executive of the world’s fourth-largest, publicly-listed tobacco company.
