Obama gives Daschle healthcare role

Barack Obama has chosen Tom Daschle to spearhead his push for universal healthcare reform as secretary for health and human services, according to Democratic officials close to the president-elect.

The former US Senate majority leader was one of Mr Obama’s earliest and most high-profile supporters and served as co-chairman of his presidential campaign.
