Foreign language GCSE studies ‘in free fall’

The number of young people learning a modern foreign language is “in free fall” because of the government’s decision to scrap the requirement for young people to study one language until the age of 16.

GCSE results published on Thursday showed a dramatic slump in the number students taking the subjects.
