The controversy: Another bruising industry conflict

Six years after one of the biggest battles in Swiss watchmaking, another bruising conflict has erupted involving much the same participants.

In mid-September, the country’s competition commission announced an inquiry into pricing and payment policies at ETA, the Swatch Group’s components subsidiary, after complaints from unnamed customers about excessive price rises and the termination of discounts for prompt payment.
