FSA lauds immunity plan for 'supergrasses'

Alistair Darling's plan to give immunity to City whistleblowers who raise the alarm over market manipulation was welcomed yesterday by the Financial Services Authority, but lawyers and traders questioned whether it would have much effect.

The FSA has been seeking powers to strike deals with "supergrasses" for over a year but the Treasury has dragged its feet because of concerns about how the system would work in practice.
