French discontent spurs new initiatives

The French government is working on measures to boost youth employment and help struggling companies restructure in a bid to defuse the growing discontent that brought up to 3m people on to the streets during a national strike last week.

Officials on Sunday began a review of possible initiatives that could help to take the sting out of the mounting concern at President Nicolas Sarkozy’s response to the global economic crisis.
