The takeover of Nabisco by KKR, immortalised in the book Barbarians at the Gate, was the world’s biggest takeover – a record that was not broken for 20 years.

That Nabisco deal of 1989 was superceded only last month when Blackstone finally secured the $39bn takeover of Equity Office, the biggest office owner in the US (see page 4).
