CNP and Postbank ease pain as bourses decline

A number of high-profile merger announcements and rumours this week helped keep a lid on losses for European equity markets.

Meanwhile, the closure of US markets on Thursday for Thanksgiving drove a lowliquidity dash into pharmaceutical stocks, partly because of the defensive qualities of the sector, and also because valuations, after several months of losses, were seen as cheap.
