New nuclear admission hurts Seoul's credibility

South Korea on Thursday admitted it had conducted a plutonium-based nuclear experiment in 1982 and the United Nations' nuclear watchdog had been looking into the incident for years.

The disclosure, a week after Seoul revealed a uranium enrichment experiment, is expected to damage South Korea's international credibility further and undermine efforts to dismantle North Korea's nuclear programme.
