The Chinese factor: Run for investment bulls as China shops

The vast opencast copper mine at Chuquicamata in Chile’s dry northern desert is one of the few man-made features on the earth visible from space.

And now it is getting bigger. Viewed from the edge of the mine, a steady procession of digger trucks, their wheels twice the height of a man, work round the clock to take their cargo of white copper ore to a huge refinery.
