Equities drop as risk aversion grips investors

21:28 GMT. Riskier assets succumbed to a bout of profit taking on Thursday as investors fretted that the rally was showing signs of fatigue and the dollar, the perceived driver of activity, bounced towards the top of its recent tight range.

Traders flicked the strategy switch to ‘risk off’, shedding commodities and buying government bonds after a broker downgrade of the semiconductor sector and a mixed set of US economic reports further weighed on sentiment.
