A fall in demand for consumer electronics and information technology products has dented profits at Volex, the maker of electric and telecom cables. Although the company said that visibility was still poor on future earnings, it nevertheless forecast an improvement in the second half of the year, with full year adjusted earnings slightly above current forecasts.

The company’s Power Products division, which manufactures sockets, plugs, and electric cables for computers, comprises 60 per cent of group revenues, and saw sales sink by 17 per cent compared to the same period last year. However, there was a 17 per cent increase in sales between the first and second quarters, indicating that the market may have bottomed.
