Browne appears to limit use of nuclear weapons

Britain appears to have changed its nuclear doctrine and narrowed the set of circumstances under which it would contemplate using nuclear weapons.

Des Browne, defence secretary, said yesterday that Britain's nuclear arms "should not be used for anything other than deterring extreme threats to our national security".
