Once upon a time, flying was fun. Most of you won’t remember. The days are long gone when travellers found journeys an exotic experience. Remember when suitcases had straps, and wheelies weren’t invented? When air hostesses were glamorous and passengers got pampered? Probably not. Today is all about do-it-yourself or die.
Mind, there may be mixed feelings about the news that British Airways is cutting out free meals on its short-haul flights – except for breakfast before 10am. Thank God for the British banger. The stodgy cheese sandwiches of recent times are scarcely something to fly for. But pretzel-and-water is a stingy alternative. (Peanuts are out for fear of allergies.)
