Burmese rebel leader General Bo Mya dies

An estimated 10,000 people attended the burial on Tuesday of Burma’s most prominent ethnic insurgent, General Bo Mya, within the sliver of territory along the Thai border held by the ethnic Karen militia he formerly led.

Bo Mya’s death on Sunday aged 79 deprives the Karen of their most visible symbol, even as their insurgency flounders.
