Asian buy-backs reach $3.6bn

Share buy-backs in Asia have reached $3.6bn this year, almost triple the $1.3bn for the same period in 2007, as cash-rich companies in the region seek to boost their battered share prices.

The growth of buy-backs in Asia, excluding Japan and Australia, bucks the worldwide trend. According to data from Thomson Reuters, the volume of global buy-backs is down 30 per cent from a year ago.
