Troops invade rebel Comoros island

African Union forces on Tuesday launched the first military offensive in the body’s six-year history by backing troops from the tiny Indian Ocean archipelago of the Comoros that retook a rebel-controlled island.

The mission included troops from Sudan – which has consistently obstructed the work of AU peacekeepers on its own territory in the province of Darfur – and Tanzania.
