As Facebook’s first year as a public company draws to a close, explore the key events with this interactive timeline.

Facebook announced it was going public in February 2012, kicking of a frantic few months for the technology giant – which also included the $1bn acquisition of Instagram, a popular photo-sharing service.

It priced its IPO at $38 per share, raising $16bn and valuing the company at $104bn. But the stock fell almost immediately and is still trading well below its launch price.
