Businesses should be able to choose which company supplies their water, with competition eventually spreading to households, the water regulator will say on Friday.

Ofwat is publishing its report on competition in the water and sewerage industries in England and Wales, which is its contribution to the government’s review of water competition, led by Martin Cave, a professor at Warwick Business School.
