Fukui leaves BoJ leadership vacuum

The Bank of Japan faces a leadership vacuum after Toshihiko Fukui steps down as governor on Wednesday after the opposition Democratic Party of Japan’s indicated it would reject the government’s new candidate for the post.

The government on Tuesday nominated Koji Tanami, president of the Japan Bank for International Co-operation and a former finance ministry vice-minister, in an attempt to break the deadlock over the BoJ leadership.
